Expected Length of Treatment

The length of treatment is individualized and determined collaboratively. For medication treatment, the recommended length of treatment for most disorders is generally six months or longer, depending on your specific case. For cognitive behavioral therapy, length of treatment is generally 12 to 20 weeks. Cases that are complicated by co-morbid presentations (i.e., more than one disorder) or history of non-response to treatment may take longer. The frequency of medication visits depends on the specific case. Patients may be seen more often during initial treatment or medication adjustment. Patients on a stable medication regimen may be seen every three to four months. Continuous monitoring is important to ensure that you remain well.
